Hi my name is Christy Saggau! I am a kindergarten teacher at Laredo Elementary, a low income school in Aurora, Colorado. Laredo is a wonderful community of families from all over the world. In my class I have students that speak English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Somali, Oromo, and Nepali to name a few. We are a very diverse bunch and are excited about learning.
One of the main ways we learn in kindergarten is through high quality texts and resources. As the new school year starts I have made it a goal to create a literacy rich classroom. Being newer to teaching I am in need of big books for shared reading, a diverse collection of read aloud books, and small group resources. These resources will be used to promote literacy skills and growth. They will also provide background knowledge in many different content and academic areas.
It is one of my missions to advocate for my students and community. I believe these resources would support them in so many ways. As a person who struggled in literacy early on, I now know the importance of high quality books and resources. The perfect book can capture the attention of a young reader and spur them on to a lifelong love of books and learning.
My timeline for receiving funds is flexible but I would like to start building up my library as soon as possible so that the students can start using them right away.
If my goal becomes a reality I, and 100s of students in years to come, would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for your consideration and donations. I look forward to updating you on how these resources meld the minds of the next generation!
