Paul's Medical Fund

On behalf of my cousin Sharon and her husband Paul Carroll, I've set up a GoFundMe account to help with Paul's on-going medical expenses.  As many of you are aware, Paul has been battling health issues for several years, and Sharon has been there for him and helping him through the difficult times.  In July, 2007, Paul was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the throat. Paul had never been a smoker.  He had to undergo a complete Laryngectomy and has had a permanent trachea since 2009.  He went through three rounds of chemo and radiation and has been in remission until July, 2016.  He has now been diagnosed with MDS-Myelodysplastic Syndrome Disease (Leukemia).  MDS is a very rare case of a secondary cancer disorder due to long term side effects from the previous chemo treatments, which makes it more difficult for him to be treated.

They recently received the news that UAB hospital is unable to help Paul, which we were all hoping and praying for.  He has been referred to MD Anderson hospital in Houston, TX, which is an advanced cancer research hospital.  Paul's appointment in Houston is tentatively set for Aug. 19th.  They expect to have another bone marrow test done there and will research any options for a chance to qualify for a clinical trial.

Paul is prepared to fight this and I want Paul and Sharon to know that they are not alone in this battle.  They need to know that their family and friends are here to support/help them.  The funds raised will be used to cover his medical bills, travel expenses, Sharon's missed work, and other costs that they may accrue.  We can all help by donating and/or sharing their story.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Cheryl Brister
