Hello friends, family, community business owners, fellow CO schools, and teachers - alumni - and current students of Charter Oak High! I am a drama student as well as the President of the Thespian Society at COHS and our Department needs your help. As always we had a lot planned for this school year but as some of you may know our department suffered a loss earlier this school year. Our Technical Director/Choreographer/Set Designer & Builder - Angelo Collado’s employment was not renewed for reasons we are all still confused about. But as they say in show biz “the show must got on”. It’s hasnt been the same and his absence is missed greatly. So we had no choice to find people to replace him.....which resulted in paying for 5 ppl to create what 1 usually did for our department. To say Angelo was undervalued and not fully appreciated by us and our district is an understatement. Our Moon Over Buffalo & BYE BYE BIRDIE production was amazing and the talents of the new team showed and the feedback like always was heartwarming. But it seriously broke our bank which my fellow Seniors and Officers do not feel comfortable leaving the new Department Officers who soon will be planning for next school year.

We are a very active department and pride ourselves on the amazing talent that is discovered , nurtured, and grows year after year. We participate in the One Acts Festival, DTASC, Shakespeare DTASC, Thespian activities, and produce a Fall play along with a Spring musical.

The money will go toward fees to enter the acting festivals where we showcase our unbelieve talents and come home invigorated by the applause, remarks and trophies earned. Money will also allow us to replace props, costumes, and materials to build -sets that were stolen last school year from our storage. Your donations will help us with publicity, producing show tickets and programs, music, makeup, and to show royalties. Your sponsorhips will help us with buses to Acting Festivals and Thespian Troupe and Membership fees......and I am sure there are things that I am forgetting to mention.

Without donations this year along with our long list of fundraising that we will need to do, the department may have to cut back on some events in order to continue productions. We ask for your help to revive our department and continue to support our actors and actresses with your presence at their shows. We dedicate so much time, energy, talent, skill and passion towards all of these productions.......and not only because we love to see the outcome, but because we love to share our craft with the world. Theatre is something that is universal and long lasting, and worth preserving. Our department helps build confidence, will help mold us into who we will be when we leave COHS, long lasting friendships are made, new talents are discovered, and we are active members in our school and communities.
