Yesterday, I took Gossamer to the vet for what I thought was a nagging dog-park injury to his front ankle. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, I was given the devastating news that it is osteosarcoma (aka bone cancer).
Here is a link that explains the condition in more depth:

Obviously, bone cancer isn't cool, but we think that it may be treatable with amputation and/or chemotherapy. My veterinarian, who also adores Goss, thinks this is his best course of treatment. Gossamer is only 6-years-old and is in great health otherwise, so I am hopeful that I can save my friend!
Cancer treatment for dogs is expensive, however. I have read that the estimated costs can be anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000. Many of you already know that I am a teacher, so I am not rolling in cash. I will say that I did consider funding the treatment through a large meth operation a la Breaking Bad (haha, JUST KIDDING...) but I decided there were more ethical means out there. I will be using this money towards his labs, pain medications, surgery, and any other potential medical expenses. This type of cancer is aggressive and the funds are desperately needed, and quickly, to save his life.
If you know me well, you've probably already met Goss and already know that he is the sweetest, smartest, and best companion anyone could ask for. He is possibly more human than dog, and has been with me through A LOT. He has a beautiful soul and truly deserves this. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to anyone who can contribute ANYTHING to his cause. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!! <3 <3 <3
