Yasmin's Recovery

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Steph one of Yasmin's many but arguably her longest suffering friend! Yas's Diving incident in June has seen her go through 9 operations so far including having her left leg amputated and her right leg carefully reassembled. I have set up a go fund me page to help financially aid Yas's recovery and ultimately help get her back on her feet, so to speak!

Yasmin is an outgoing, life is what you make of it kind of girl and before the accident she enjoyed a busy social life including  hiking, horseriding  and most of all her biggest passion was diving. She moved away to Portsmouth to study where she achieved her dream gaining her PhD in Marine Biology. 18 months ago Yas moved to Mexico to work as a Divemaster where she was quote "Living the dream" in paradise.

Just a few days before Yas was due to return to the UK for a months holiday, she suffered a horrific diving accident. A boat reversed over her mangaling her legs in the propellers. It was the stuff of nightmares.... she should have died given how much damage had been caused to her legs and the severe blood loss. For the full story please read her detailed blog;(findingmysealegs.com)

But Yas is tough.... and stubborn, and somehow she found the strength to pull through in what can only be described as a miracle.  After a short stint in a Mexican hospital she was flown back to the UK and has since been through countless operations including having her left leg amputated above the knee and her right leg pieced back together with metal work and a skin graft from her tummy.

Yasmins detemination to move forward with her life has been inspiring. The next stage of her recovery is to try and get her back walking again which means getting a prothestic fitted and heading off to London for a couple of months in a specialist hospital. This is where your help is needed. The rehabilitation is expensive and not all the fees are able to be covered by the NHS. Legs are even more expensive. Hopefully Yas will soon be fitted for a prothestic from the NHS which will give her some limited ability to move around. The ultimate dream now would be to raise enough money to pay for a leg which will enable her to not only stand but to hike, swim and do all the things her life was filled with before the horrific accident.

All being well, Yas is expecting something like a year of hospital and rehab treatment. Whilst her life is currently on hold, planning from her hospital bed and thinking about moving forward we decided we needed a goal. Yas and I (and any brave friends who would like to join us!) have decided that in 2018 we are going to attempt to climb the UK's 3 highest peaks: Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scaffel Pike.  At this moment she is still struggling with getting on and off a bed pan and so you can see how this goal may seem a little far fetched.... but with a little help from hopefully alot of people it could just be possible!

Funds raised will help towards medical fees, travel expenses, loss of income, and a leg suitable for a young active person.  You really will be helping get Yas's life back.  Please donate and help spread the word.

Thankyou for reading  :)
