My name is Chenelle, and I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica, a place full of warmth, family, and community. Our family home wasn’t just a building but rather it was our safe haven, filled with laughter, the smell of Sunday dinners, and memories that spanned generations. It was where my family built their lives, where we celebrated birthdays, and where we gathered during storms, trusting that its walls would always protect us.

But on October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, tore through Jamaica with unimaginable force. In just a few hours, it destroyed what my family spent a lifetime building. The roof of our family home was ripped away, the walls collapsed, and nearly everything inside was lost to the wind and floodwaters.

Today, my family is safe and that is my greatest blessing. But they are starting from nothing. The home that was held for generations is now damaged, and my family, including my Aunt Monique, Uncle Dean and younger cousins are sleeping in temporary homes.

I’m reaching out with a humble heart to ask for help rebuilding both my family home and the homes of my Aunt and Uncle. Help to rebuild a place where my family can feel safe again, where we can cook together, laugh together, and rebuild the sense of peace that was taken from us.
