In Scott's own words: "In April 2015, with the crack of a bat, what was supposed to be the culmination of our first family vacation at a LugNutsminor league baseball game (Lansing, Michigan) with my infant, fiancé, and childhood friends, changed our lives forever. Mere seconds after handing my son to my fiancé, a line drive ball shattered my jaw! Slipping in and out of consciousness, waking to a fog of pain, I was transported via ambulance to the University of Michigan University Hospital (Ann Arbor, Michigan). Enroute, a trauma team cauterized an artery to stem the flow of blood. The ball splintered my mandible, pulverized eight teeth, and tore apart my lower face; requiring two liters of blood and over 20 stitches to sew back together."
Since the accident Scott has undergone two bone grafting surgeries to repair the shattered bones. An additional surgery is required for dental implants, if enough viable bone remains. Each surgery requires numerous follow up appointments at the U of M University Hospital, an 1,100 mile round trip from their home. To date, he has missed over three months of work adding to the financial burden requiring hotels and travel expenses, home medical, insurance co-pays, and lost wages.
Scott needs your help. His medical insurance at UP Health Systems, where he is employed as a registered nurse only covers dental claims for one year after an injury. Between bone grafts and reconstruction surgeries there is an additional 4 month healing process and insurance has quit paying. Also there is no liability through the ballpark because the small print on the back of your entree ticket releases them from any and all liability. So now, one year later, already with staggering financial costs and out of pocket expenses he is unable to complete the remaining necessary reconstruction surgeries and dental implants he needs to his face and his mouth. He needs your help.
This experience has been devastating to his new family, his career and himself! Any assistance that you can provide will forever be appreciated. Even a small amount will help get him closer to his goal and becoming a whole man again. Thank you.
