Michael Hagy Medical Care Relief
Donation protected
For those of you who know my Dad, Michael Hagy, you know that he is not one to ever ask for help...Which is why I am setting up this fund.
If you don't know the story, here it is:
On July 12th, 2016 my dad was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma on his tongue and lymph nodes in his neck. After many doctors visits and tests he had surgery on Aug. 2nd, 2016 to remove the cancerous tumor from his body as well as a neck dissection to remove the lymph nodes. He then spent 24+ hours in ICU with a feeding tube before he was transferred to a private room where he spent the next 4 days before being discharged due to the insurance company only approving a 5 day stay.
Before discharge, all drains and tubes had been disconnected.
After being at home for less than 48 hours, he was in more and more pain and discomfort and had swelling and redness in his neck and a foul taste in his mouth. Even though he was still on a full liquid diet, he was still having a lot of trouble and pain while swallowing. Exactly 7 days post-op, it was discovered that he had an infection in his neck and had to have yet another drain inserted which had to be flushed 3 times a day. After 5 days of the pin-rose drain, it was taken out which left a quarter size hole in his neck that had to be cleaned and packed twice a day with sterile gauze.
So, here he is almost 8 weeks after surgery and he has a pea size hole in his neck that is just about completely healed.
This is just the beginning of what is going to be a very long journey.
While recovering, dad (Michael) missed about 2 1/2 weeks of work and 2 of those were without pay because he ran out of paid time off.
While he continues to recover from surgery, the treatment evaluation began 3 weeks ago, where he has been in and out of Houston seeing doctors and preparing for his radiation and chemo treatments to begin Oct. 3. Fortunately, his paid leave reset on Sept 1 but he will exhaust those days on Day 6 of treatment. His boss informed him that he will have to remove him from payroll at that time which will leave him without a paycheck for the remaining 5 weeks of treatment plus he will have to pay his insurance out of pocket during that time.
This Gofund Me is to help pay for the crazy expenses that will occur over the course of the next few months including making up for lost salary, paying for insurance, the cost of travel and living in Houston for the treatments, as well as one of the many other challenges recently - car trouble.
Any donation amount is appreciated greatly.
Thank you all in advance and please continue to keep my dad, and our family in your prayers.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we know that God is in control through all of this.
God Bless each of you!
"Consider it pure joy , my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." ~James 1:2-4
