Being there for Tye in Rio
Donation protected
We're Doug and Kim Dutcher, Tye's parents. Eight years ago Tye was in a lawn mower accident that left him without his right foot. As devistating as it was for him and our family, he spoke these words after his first surgery, "I know this happened for a reason." His hearts attitude has always been to encourage others to not give up, and that whatever the Lord Jesus allows in and through his life; that it all brings Glory to God.
We're a California family, yet moved to the state of Washington in the middle of Tye's sophmore year. All of our five children with Tye being the youngest, swam and played water polo from their youth through their high school years. We love water! :) During Tyes senior year here, there was an article that was written in the Seattle Times that caught the attention of an incredible woman, Coach Kiko here in the area. It was through her that Tye was introduced to swimming with para athletes and was accepted into the Paralympic Resident program at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Less than two weeks after graduating he moved there and has been training with incredible athletes this past year... And after competing in the Paralympic Swim Trials in NC recently, Tye made it to Rio!!!
My husband Doug and I made plans to go and be there to support and cheer him on. What we're asking for is some help in costs that we hadn't planned on. We were just told that Tye is swimming a 3rd event, the 100m Free, which is 3 days after his 2nd event. We are hoping to be able to stay for this race, yet the cost is at least another $3,000. (Extra fee for changing our flights, hotel costs, travel and food)
It is very hard to ask for help... we'll be grateful for any gifts that will help us be able to be there for Tye for all his events. We appreciate your prayers for Tye and ask with a heart of gratitude. Thank you! Blessings, Doug and Kim
