My Dad, Dale Twedt, woke up two weeks ago, Sunday morning (July 24th) and could barely move he was in excruciating pain in his hip and leg. The day before was just an ordinary Saturday for him. Of course, we took him right away to the emergency room.
Backing up just a moment here, my dad had had a hip replacement approximately 3 years ago. Surprisingly, about 6 months later he developed an infection in that joint and had to have that hip replaced again, after rounds of antibiotics. There was no explanation as to what may have caused the infection; only that it happens sometimes.
Back to now. We told the ER doctors of his past hip surgeries. They did tests but didn’t see an infection and sent him home and referred to the family doctor. To make a long story short, the infection was coming from the hip joint again, only this time the infection was so bad it had become SEPTIC!!! They had to transport him to a different hospital, drain the infection, and remove the hip joint completely and replaced it with a temporary brace, to give time for the infection to be cleared completely. Now he’s home from the hospital and will be on intravenous antibiotics 24 /7 for 6 weeks and will not be able to go to work. Then he will need to go back in the hospital to have the PERMANENT hip implanted again. This will make the 3rd left hip replacement in 3 years! And there is no way of knowing if this will or could happen again!!
While all of this is bad enough, my dad had just started a new job 60 days ago. This means he has no sick or vacation time. He’s already spent 2 weeks in the hospital and will not be able to work for at least an additional 14 weeks waiting for antibiotics and rehab after a new hip is replaced.
He and my mother are sick with worry as to how they will make their monthly payments, and not to mention anything that may not be covered under his medical insurance.
Please – as much as I hate to ask – if there is any way you can help by making any sort of donation to help my parents through this totally unexpected and horribly difficult time, my parents and myself would be so very, very thankful!!!
