Nadine Miller is an amazing woman fighting a tremendous battle with stage 4 colon cancer. Relieving some of her financial stress is one of the only ways we can help at this time. Please read my aunt's story and consider a donation as we support her as "Team Nadine":
My husband and I had been planning our retirement so that we could travel with our RV to see the country. In January of 2016, after a routine colonoscopy, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. After a follow up CT and PET scan, we then learned that it has spread throughout my liver as well (also stage 4).
After meeting with my Oncologist, I was advised that I would need massive doses of both Chemo and Radiation to stop the bleeding and control the cancer in both my colon and my liver. My Oncologist advised that it was inoperable and I could expect about three more years of life.
As I am only 61, I was planning to work for a few more years before I left my job to retire. Our dream retirement was shattered with my diagnosis! We have since sold the RV and its tow vehicle (at a loss) in order to eliminate as much unneeded expense as we could. I have been trying to maintain a work schedule to help with the finances and keep my insurance in force, but the Chemo has had some devastating effects and I am not able to maintain much of my work schedule.
Our Oncologist has also advised that I am considered to be 100% disabled. It will be at least six months before I will be approved for disability. As I am too young to apply for Medicare, I will be forced to find another insurance which will certainly be very expensive, if I am even able to find one that will take me with this pre-existing cancer!
My focus now is to get through the treatments and not have to file for bankruptcy as our funds are all but depleted due to medical expenses and my inability to work full-time.
