Sweet Samantha Raye Hicks was diagnosed on September 12, 2016 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Samantha, who the family calls " Sami Cakes" is 4 years old. She has a 2 year old sister and a 9 year old sister at home.
Sami showed signs of leg pain and had problems walking. Her mother Loren Kryder Hicks recognized her daughters struggle and immediately took her to the doctor. The back of Sami's leg was extremely swollen. After blood tests were taken results showed a very low count of white and red cells. Her platelets were also very low. Sami needed a blood transfusion immediately. She ended up needing multiple transfusions in just a few short days. Sami had an Ultrasound, Biospy and MRI which narrowed it down to this life threatening cancer.
Sami will have a Spinal Tap this week and begin her Chemotherapy. We ask for your prayers and support during this difficult time. Sami starts her medical treatment which can last for years if she survives. We need your help to fund Sami's medical costs and support the family as they must step back from their jobs to be with Sami. They cannot do this alone.
Description of illness:
Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia also known as (ALL) acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer that starts from the early version of white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow (the soft inner part of the bones, where new blood cells are made). Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. Leukemia cells usually invade the blood fairly quickly. They can spread to other parts of the body, lymph nodes, liver, spleen, central nervous system ( brain and spinal cord).
