Shannon Farque Fund

Because we can’t take the pain away and we can’t heal him, this fund was created for our brother, Shannon Farque. Shannon has a wife, two boys in their early twenties and a 10 month-old rambunctious baby boy. You could say Shannon was a spry young man in his forties. I say WAS, because Shannon is now facing a long road of uncertainty and recovery.

After suffering a week of severe pain due to kidney stones, Shannon was rushed to the hospital only to be told it wasn’t kidney stones at all. The hospital was baffled by his situation and told him he needed to be transferred to a different hospital that could better assist him with his sudden health dilemma.

Shannon was told he had a herniated disk that bulged and collapsed causing a fracture on his vertebra. The worst part was he was informed he had pneumonia; his lungs were full of fluid inside and out. After undergoing a painful procedure to drain the fluid from his lungs, three days later he was told his lungs were full of fluid again. A Pulmonologist (Lung Specialist) had to be called in.

Shannon was told he will have to have surgery. Slits will have to be placed in his lungs, chest tubes inserted and the infection will have to be cleaned out and identified. The lining of his lungs may also need to be reinforced.

And what about his fractured vertebrae, well that had to be put on the back burner until the infection in his lungs is gone. He has been given a back brace to wear if he moves around, but moving around proves to be difficult when you can’t breathe.

Surgery on his lungs was scheduled for Wednesday, August 10th and unfortunately it did not go as planned. Scar tissue and abrasions on the lungs prevented the doctor from being able to access the lungs as needed. Radiology had to be called in, they were able to assist with only part of what was originally planned. Radiology was able place 2 chest tubes in his lungs. It is a long process, the tubes have been in for two days slowly draining. While it seems to be working, we are now playing the waiting game as to whether that procedure will be successful on its own or if an even larger more terrifying surgery has to take place. The road to recovery sounds long, painful and scary; especially when you don’t know what the future holds.

Like most families, both Shannon and his wife have to work to provide for their family. Shannon's job requires physical labor. Physical labor that his body cannot perform in its current fragile state. Two weeks of vacation pay can only go so far where bills are concerned, not to mention all the medical bills that are racking up. In just a few days, Shannon will have been in the hospital for two weeks.

Through Shannon’s diagnosis, painful procedures and surgery looming over his head, his number one concern has been not being able to work and provide for his wife and kids. As his family, we are asking for any donation that can be given to help alleviate some of the burden Shannon is currently feeling.

Shannon believes in giving to others. He is a faithful giver to Angel Tree and other organizations close to his heart. Shannon was a member of Waters Edge Church in Lake Charles. Due to his work schedule he had recently started attending the 11am services at Cross Roads Church in Moss Bluff.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. No amount is ever too small when giving out of the goodness of your heart. We are a strong family of believer’s that know “All things are possible through our Lord, Jesus Christ”!
