Tom's Accident Fund
My name is Tom Murphy and I'm a freelance music writer. Recently I got into an accident with a motorcyclist when trying to cross an intersection with poor visibility. The motorcycle's front end basically needs to be replaced among other damages and the owner of the motorcycle and I thought it might be best to settle this matter without involving the insurance company though a police report was filed partly because for me it was a borrowed car.
The day of the accident I had to tell the owner of the motorcycle that I had $6 to my name and that is a hard reality of being a freelance writer. Some times of the year you do okay but most of the rest of the year you scramble to pay bills and the $650 it will cost for the motorcycle repairs plus an estimated $450 to replace the rear bumper cover of the car represents a major setback and a an onerous hardship that will take several months to more than a year to overcome. And I simply do not have the funds and won't have them to hand over in a timely manner.
The funds generated will be used to cover the aforementioned costs and the costs of running this campaign. Any funds raised in excess of those costs or in general will go toward subsidizing the cost of a musical event series in September and October as well as a fund to aid victims of the online harassment as outlined in this recent cover story in Westword.
The owner of the motorcycle agreed for me to raise the funds by Friday, August 12.
I would appreciate any help I can get with this matter because I struggle considerably week to week to not just pay my bills but to have some of the basics of life in Denver. Absolutely many people have it worse off than me and I think many people are too proud to ask for help when they need it and end up worse off than if they had set that pride aside. I know the feeling and am reluctant to ask for help as well.
Should this campaign be successful I will find a way to demonstrate my gratitude to my community in an individual and in a more general way and I am open to suggestions as to how to do so. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your consideration in donating.
