In December of 2015 Steve started to complain about having lower back pain. He was in and out of patient cares to be seen and to get pain mess to help. By the end of January he had to start calling out of work because the pain got to be too much. In February 2015 he was taken to the ER where they did and MRI and that is when he found out he had a mass on his spine. February 5, 2015 he was officially diagnosed with testicular cancer. They also found swollen lymph nodes in his abdomen and a couple spots in his lungs. After the testicle was removed he began 5 days of radiation and by mid February he started his first round of Chemo. He had his last round of Chemo the end of April into early May and was told he had a complete response, which meant there were no signs of cancer in his body. He was progressing by being able to be up and walking and moving around and Steve and Jenna started to get back to living their lives.
In the middle of June he started having pain again but it was different. He had an MRI done the last week of June and that's when Jenna got the call that there were new masses on his spine below where the original one was. He got admitted to St. Lukes and began radiation again. They went home the next day and by July 4th he wasn't even able to move his legs at all. After more MRI'S it came back that he not only had masses on his lumbar to sacral spine but also on his thoracic spine, which is why he lost control of his legs. He has spots of cancer on his liver, lungs and there is a mass in his abdomen. He was transferred from St. Lukes to Fox Chase who told him the best care would be at the Hospital of University of Pennysylvania. Steve finished radiation while here and is slowly getting movement back in his legs but it will take a lot of time, physical therapy and hard work for him to gain full function back. The doctor told him that the type of tumors he has (germ cell) are very aggressive and his previous chemo treatments were successful but didn't do enough for the long run. It is very rare for it to come back this quick and aggressive but they are still hopeful that further treatments will get his body to respond. Treatments will continue for 12-16 weeks.
Those who know Steve know he is a beautiful soul and he is always there for everyone. He is kind, caring, energetic and a blessing to be around. He has made my Best Friend Jenna the happiest woman in the world and seeing him in pain and also her breaks my heart. Any donation will help with all of the Medical Bills that Steve will have. Thank you in advance to everyone who took the time to read this and who donates. If you are unable to help monetarily please send prayers up to the big man upstairs.
With love,
Shelby Stalbird
