Hi,
My name is Eva, and I’ve embarked on a journey to pursue my passion for filmmaking. I’m seeking your support to make this dream a reality. On this occasion, I am working on a climate fiction film to complete my MA in Film Directing and Writing at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels.
Working title
Christmas Affair
Logline
In a climate-changed Brussels, where Christmas has become a summer affair, a grieving mother’s attempt to revive snowy memories for her son forces her to face the intertwined loss of her husband and the disappearance of winter.
Motivation and Intent
Cinema has always been a tool to challenge, provoke, and imagine. For my graduation film, I want to explore the intersection of climate change, grief, and family relations through a story grounded in the absurdity of a future that feels alarmingly close. I’m committed to crafting a narrative that reflects the emotional complexity of our collective crisis.
Why is it so hard to tell a climate story? Perhaps it’s because the stakes are so monumental, and the answers are not black-and-white. My approach avoids the binary of utopias and dystopias in a future setting, instead seeking the spectrum in between, where invention and reflection are most needed. Drawing on influences like Lucrecia Martel’s focus on the present moment and Yorgos Lanthimos’s use of absurdity, the film blends naturalistic aesthetics with humor and melancholy. It portrays a mother and son navigating personal grief and the quiet, pervasive grief of a changing climate.
This film also reflects my excitement about the growing movement of filmmakers tackling the climate storytelling challenge. Like others in this space, I’m eager to push beyond surface-level narratives, experimenting with structure, relationships, and future-proof values. It’s a story of hope—not complacent hope, but active hope that questions how we live, adapt, and connect in an altered world.
Portfolio:
These films were made on a micro budget, covered by my own income. I wrote, filmed, and edited them by myself.
Here is a short summary of both:
Captain of My Dreams: In Captain of My Dreams, a group of young sailors navigates the Dutch inland seas on a traditional Frisian-style boat, sharing their dreams for the future and confronting the intricate relationship between personal aspirations and global sustainability. Their stories reveal a common thread—the realization that their dreams are linked with the health of the planet. With scenes of camaraderie and introspection, the sailors grapple with the idea that their dreams must align with the planet's well-being.
Vitreum Familiae: In the vibrant streets of Naples, Italy, the film delves into the relationship between Tonino, a skilled stained-glass artisan who repairs church windows of Naples’ most iconic churches, and his son, Emilio, a young and talented musician struggling to become financially independent. As reality and imagination intertwine, the film celebrates finding joy in life's simple pleasures, cherishing love between loved ones, and showcasing the resilient human spirit expressed through creativity.
Thank you for being a part of this exciting adventure with me! Your contribution, big or small, will make a significant impact on my journey.
