I have been teaching at Lozano School in Wicker Park for 12 years. Chicago Public Schools and Lozano have gone through many changes through these years. Some of you have probably witnessed the budget issues that the state of Illinois is facing presently. Over the past few years there has not even been money in the budget for supplies such as copy paper and even pencils. Teachers have personally supplied a lot, and parents have been very generous with donating some supplies. However, no matter what is going on we try to take the students on memorable and meaningful field trips. We feel the students benefit greatly from experiences and exposure to things outside of our neighborhood. With the budget crisis at the schools it is difficult for us to ask more from parents. Whenever we take a trip we have to account for the transportation and the trip itself. We cannot ask our parents to pay above $10 (some students have siblings also).
I am asking for your help so that our students can leave the confines of the school and explore the world around them. The money will go towards buses or to lower the cost of a trip. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Please pass this along to anyone you think can help. Your generosity means so much to myself and our students.
