Recoup cost of stolen gear

I've always tried to help people when I can. Most of the time it works out just fine but other times it doesn't.
I was allowing an acquaintance to rent a room in my home for next to nothing. He and his girlfriend were really hard up and for the most part I believe they were recovering from some nasty habits and were staying clean.
I had some shows out of town and returned to find that not only had they taken off without paying rent but they had taken nearly anything of value with them. I believe they had a relapse because anything they did leave (my guitar, some of my clothing, artwork) had been painted, tagged on, or generally destroyed.
They made off with my stage lighting, backdrops, lasers, video gear, lights, tripods, crane, 2 Nikon dslrs, a collection of vintage film cameras, various recording equipment, mics, preamps, stands, as well as most of my clothing.
These kids need help, not jail. That will do nothing to help me gain back any of it. At the end of the day it is just stuff, and there are Go Fund Me campaigns that I believe are much more worthy of your money.
I created this campaign because as a freelance videographer and creative, the loss of all of that gear greatly affects my earning potential. Financially things are already tough for Austin musicians, and it's going to be extremely difficult to bounce back from this quickly.
So thank you for your time and considering supporting this campaign. Again, I believe there are many campaigns much more deserving of your money, but if you feel called to help me get back on my feet I would very much appreciate it.
