Hello Friends!
I love Sam. I knew from the first month I met him that I was going to marry him.
Right before our third date, my father unexpectedly passed away. I was completely shattered. I remember texting Sam the morning I found out to say that I had to cancel our date and the reason why. I expected apologies and offers to help with things and all the usual things people say to you when you lose someone. I figured I’d never hear from him again after this. Who wants to start getting serious with someone right as they’re on the precipice of Grand Canyon-deep grief? Who wants to check in on and console a puddle of a human being who you just met?
But that’s what my Sam did.
Over the next few months, I was put back together again by the kindest, gentlest, most empathetic person I’ve ever known. There’s a big difference between someone who sympathetic and someone who’s empathetic. Sympathetic people care, they check in, they get you out of the house to take your mind off things. But a person with empathy recognizes your hurt and crawls into with you and shares it. They feel what you feel and understand you. Your hearts becomes the same.
I’ve spent the last two years in love with this man and I'm going to spend the rest of my years loving him too. Love indeed knows no bounds of time or space or gender or age or whatever, but the US Department of Homeland Security has a price, I’m afraid:) So rather than wedding gifts, if you are able to donate to the “Make Sam an American” fund, we would be eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity. He's been the best gift I've ever had and will ever need again.
