On Saturday morning June 25th, Wendy Gay was involved in an isolated traffic accident in Pleasanton CA. The doctors believe a delayed fainting spell caused her accident. The fainting spell may have occurred due to a pre-existing struggle with anemia. Somehow the anemia delayed getting a message to Wendys brain that a prior trauma, throwing her back while lifting a heavy object into her car trunk, had happened. It took 5-7 minutes for that message to hit her brain and respond by fainting. By that time she was in traffic. What followed was horrifying. Wendy has been told she was going approx 45 mph when she hit a curb, traffic sign, a tree and then her vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop upside down. Both legs were broken.

Now, nearly 5 weeks later.......after half a dozen surgeries, several blood transfusions, one skin graft, and infections due to the open nature of the compound fractures..... she is stable and recovering. Her right leg is casted but the left still has several rods in it and will not be casted until mid August. Kaiser has deemed her fit to be discharged. Wendy cannot bear weight on either leg. Even wheelchair use is extremely difficult at this time. Due to Kaiser deeming her dischargeable, it is highly likely Insurance will NOT cover further rehab (skilled nursing or assisted living). Wendy has months of rehab ahead of her and is going to need daily assistance whether in a facility or at home and this will be costly, not to mention she isn't able to get to work and disability is not the same as getting a normal paycheck.
It is my hope....and my goal to help fundraise $15,000 to help Wendy with these costs. We just want her to get well. I believe we can all rally to help get Wendy back on her feet. Literally :)
Thank you
