PLEASE HELP SUPPORT MY NEIGHBORS AFTER THEIR FATHER HAD A MASSIVE STROKE!

Dear Friends, Neighbors and Law Enforcement Community,

Just trying to be a good neighbor – as John Pascoe has been for the 23 years that we have been back door neighbors. John was the neighbor who was always there when one of us needed computer help, needed a lock changed, or help with an electrical problem. On weekends he was off with his kids strawberry picking, playing lasertag, going to the car show, always looking for some new adventure to share with them. He is the one Dad I know whose children still chose spending Saturday with their father over hanging out with their friends. Visiting his own Mother at her Nursing Home on Sunday afternoon was a ritual. He had endless energy and never said "No" to anyone. Then late September of last year all that stopped.  This is the story of a dedicated father who has been left partially paralyzed, and of his college aged children. Be sure to scroll to the bottom for some endearing photos.

John, whose career has been in Law Enforcement for the last 40 plus years, was at work the morning of September 30, 2015, and complained of a killer headache! He managed to get himself to the ER, but too much time had passed and the damage of the stroke was devastating.  After surgery he was unresponsive for 6 weeks, and although there has been notable progress in the months that followed, it left him paralyzed on his left side, and he now requires round the clock skilled nursing care.

But my goal is not about raising money for John. It’s about support for his daughter Jennifer and son Joshua whose lives have changed dramatically.

John was only 62 when this happened and has now lost his income. He did not have Long Term Care Insurance and after he reached his maximum Skilled Nursing medical benefit, his health insurance cut him off. Because he was not capable to manage his financial affairs, his TEENAGED son Joshua has had to step up and become his Power of Attorney. Joshua had to make the unthinkable decision to sell the family home, vehicles and liquidate his Dad’s savings to pay for his Nursing Home care, medication and therapy which now exceeds $10K each month. The closing on their house is the end of August and they will have to say goodbye to their home.

Both kids were living with their Dad when he had the stroke and were financially dependent on him. They were both attending local colleges working on their Associate Degrees, and Joshua is hoping to attend Illinois State University in the Fall of 2016. Although John's ex-wife Sheryl, my dear friend, provides guidance to Joshua with his POA responsibilities and continues to assist John daily, she does not have the financial means to pay for both her AND John’s share for Jennifer and Joshua’s education.

John is saddened that he has missed family milestones, but reminded daily by Joshua, Jennifer and Sheryl that his comfort and care is their priority and he is never a burden.
Visits by family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors keep him optimistic, but he hates to think his kids will suffer or miss out on the education that would have provided a successful future.

FUNDS DONATED THROUGH THIS SITE WILL BE USED TO DEFER COSTS FOR COLLEGE TUITION, HOUSING AND DAILY NEEDS FOR JENNIFER AND JOSHUA. They would benefit greatly from financial help, out of respect to a man who devoted his life to keeping our streets safe, educating our youth, and being an amazing father! Only the kids have access to the donations that will be collected on this site and they have guidance from professionals how to allocate the funds.

Our achieved goal would get the kids thru one year of school and daily living expenses.

Thank you on behalf of the Pascoe kids for your support and prayers during this difficult time.

Blessings to all who keep the Pascoe Family in your hearts…
