Over 25 years ago I opened a home daycare in Los Angeles, California. I love children and always had a heart to care for them. Soon I became known as Miss Lisa. I treated each of the children as if they were my own. I prepared home cooked meals, I taught them, I played with them and I kept the children in a safe and clean environment.
The business thrived and I was able to support my family, even sending my daughter to college. I had been widowed and became the sole support for my two children.
In 2004 I moved to the Inland Empire. At first I commuted to the home I owned in Inglewood. I wanted to continue to serve the families there. When the remainder of my daycare kids aged out of full day care I moved the business to Riverside County.
I was able to serve the families here for several years before tragedy struck. One morning I woke up and could not move. I was in excruciating pain. I called the paramedics and they rushed me to the hospital.
I was devistated to learn that I had to have spinal surgery but that was only the beginning. My back was the first of a rollercoaster of ailments that sent me back to the hospital three more times for surgeries. All the while I suffered with an auto immune deficiency, Erythema Nodosom which causes painful knots and bruising on my extremities.
Unable to work and struggling to pay my bills I approached my mortage servicer and requested a modification. I receive a monthly annuity from my late husband would be able to make the payments if they modified my loan. I was denied. I went to the Social Security Office and applied for disability. I was denied. I filed an appeal to my lender. Again, I was denied. Once my doctor deemed me disabled, the state declared I was disabled and I went back to Social Security, again...denied. In a last ditch effort I found the address to write to the shareholders of my loan to request their help. Again, denied.
I was starting a cake business before my back surgery (www.lovincakes.webs.com) but now, in so much pain and unable to stand for long periods I was unable to continue to grow that business. It's not that I don't have the desire to try... I am running out of options.
I'm heartbroken. I'm a hardworking, law abiding citizen who has simply hit hard times. I often wonder how this is happening to me. But there is no time for pity. I have to do everything I can to save my home.
I contacted Keep Your Home California and there is hope for me yet. I qualify for an assistance program but my loan must be current. For this, I need help.
I know there are kind-hearted and passionate people out there who will help me once they know about my situation. I have always worked hard and have never asked for a hand-out and it is very hard to make this request now. But without pride I have to ask, I have to humble myself and make the request to save my home.
Don't think your gift is too small. Every dollar helps.
My goal is to raise the money I need by August 10. I will then forward that money to the lender and follow the procedures to modify the loan to an amount I am able to pay on my own.
