Rabbit Runaway Orphanage is Victoria's first no-kill pet rabbit rescue.  In early August 2016 we received unexpected vet bills totalling more than $10,000 from our Animal Emergency Vets.  With no where to turn, we are reluctant to once more turn to you for help.

Receiving these unexpected bills has been a huge shock for us and we thouyght we had cleared all our bills due to a recent fundraising trivia night.  Subsequently we have now stopped taking in any rabbits until we can address these bills.

How could this happen?
We have more than 90 special needs rabbits in our foster program.   When our vets are closed, if a rabbit is very ill, it is taken to the Animal Emergency Centre for treatment, 
Unfortunately most of these bills were put under the foster carers name so we were not aware of them until this week.  Some go back to October 2015.

We are a registered charity and all contributions are tax deductible.  We receive no government funding and need to raise all funds to support the vet care of the rabbits ourselves.  Life is precious and these costs allow many buns to lead quality lives in loving homes.

14 of these bunnies account for most of the costs, whilst the rest is for medicines, xrays, tests, desexing and neutering of rabbits with delicate health conditions.
These bunnies are the ones you are helping and bunny hugs to you all for your generous support of our charity.

SARAH
Sarah is a chocolate seal point dwarf who lives with her friend Pebbles.  Sarah decided not to eat and ended up at Animal Emergency.   Her bill came to $1055.95.

HUGO
Little Hugo is a himalayan dwarf.  Hugo is an elderly bun and recently became quite ill and went to animal ememgency.  He had some tests done and is recovering at his foster home.  He will need further treatment.  His bill came to $517.10.

STAN (MR BUNNY)

Mr Bunny was 13 years old and his wonderful foster carers gave him a loving home whilst we looked after his vet care.  Sadly Mr Bunny was put to sleep in late July as his health deteriorated severly.  Since Oct 2015 his medications have totalled $786.40 and his recent stay in hospital added another $698 to his bill.

SILKEY
Silkey was a beautiful little boy that had 2 episodes of not eating.  As he was non responsive to supportive care, he was rushed to animal emergency.  Sadly he died in the early hours of the morning whilst in hospital. He was pain free.  His fight for life cost us $1046.85. 

EBONY

Ebony is a sweet little girl with cataracts.  Her recent decline in health meant that she needed tests done.  Her bill came to $481.70.

LILY

Lily is a beautiful little mother.  She came in pregnant and is now in a lovely foster home with Petunia, her daughter.  Recently she bacame ill and ended up in animal emergency, where she needed tests to establish her illness.  She will need further treatment. Her bill came to $444.65.

RAMBO

Little Rambo is a dwarf lop and lives with his 2nd bun wife Bonnie in a lovely foster home.  Recently Rambo was choking and open mouth breathing and was raced to animal emergency.  He recovered from his ordeal and has gone home.  His emergency treatment costs $1046.

ARTIMUS, CRUMPET & GILLYWEED

These sweet girls were born onsite when their mother Nirvana came in pregnant.  They have grown into big beautiful giants and have a lovely home.  One of their sibling died and Artimus was identified with a heart condition, tests  cost $311.60.  Crumpet and Gillyweed also needed tests done and with their spays prior to rehoming added a cost of $785.00.

OPAL

Opal was from a backyard breeder who breed her to near death, when she was captured on the streets and brought to the Orphanage.  She was open mouth breething and very distressed.  She had a litter of 8 the night she arrived and bleed profusely passing clots of matter.  She nearly died.  When she was spayed, she was done in a specialised clinic due to complications at a cost of $392.50.

DENZEL

Denzel  is a gentle giant that was dumped in a tradesmans car with Nirvana and told "here is dinner"  He has health issues.  His castration cost was $220.

MISS MUFFET

Miss Muffet was also in animal emergency and her tests and overnight stay came to $1080

BETH

BETH is one of a litter of 11 born onsite when her mum came in pregnant.  She lives with her mum and 6 siblings in a lovely foster home.  She and a number of other buns with varying health conditions, Beth, Pip, Chiquita, Buffy, Winston, Alfie, and Mabel make up the rest of the vet costs, which have accumilated over the last few months to the remaining $2138.50, rabbits spays, health tests, vaccinations, medications over a nine month period.
