23 July 2016 - This day definitely did not start out as expected. I was working on my property when I heard my next door neighbor's 3 dogs barking incessantly. When I went to investigate I found them mauling a tiny chihuahua. Adrenalin helped me somehow leap a 4 foot high fence to push the aggressive dogs off the now badly injured puppy. I wrapped him up and rushed him o the animal hospital. His cries of pain were agonizing to listen to on what seemed like a very long drive. We couldn't begin to guess how much damage was done until the vet got a good look - he said the cost could begin to really add up and, as we don't know who he belonged to, we would have to decide if we were willing to take on the expense or have him euthanized. Although money is tight in our household, we just couldn't imagine putting him down. It was clear that this little dog had already had a very tough life. The vet couldn't even tell how old he was at first due to filth, malnutrition, and neglect. We now know that he is only about 2 years old, suffered a collapsed lung, torn tissues, and various puncture wounds. He is now on morphine, and will have to spend 3 days at the hospital recovering from surgery. This little guy has a good chance at recovery. And, I just know I was put there to rescue him so that he could have a second chance at the life he deserves. We're calling him Peanut - it seems to fit such a tiny, frail baby. I am grateful to all of you for reading his story, and if it moves you, and you would like to help cover a portion of his medical expenses, please donate here. No amount is too small. Blessing to you and your loved ones.
