There will be a long road to recovery for Amanda and bills piling up. Any support would be greatly appreciated. She would never ask for help so I feel compelled to do so for her, my brother and their 3 small children. If you cannot help financially please consider sending some prayers her way. Thank you in advance.

Here's Amanda's explanation of her injury
"Saturday while having fun on a boat we got caught in a severe thunderstorm. We were in shallow water and it became very choppy. I went to jump horizontally into the water (jumping out) however as I did the boat came up and my feet were pushed up so I ended up diving head first into shallow water. I was fine for a few days, but thought I had severe whiplash. My neck muscles were tight but manageable and I continued on with life.
Wednesday I scheduled the first available chiro appointment first thing in the am. My chiropractor is AMAZING and said no way would he touch me until I had xrays. So to the clinic I went. Per the Dr. the xrays came back negative for any fractures and he even cleared me to play softball over the weekend with my own pain management.
Wednesday afternoon I went back to the chiropractor and although it was a painful adjustment I already felt some relief...and proceeded onto work. With a belly full of ibuprofen I was able to feel good and work a busy shift. At the end of the shift I even said to a coworker I must have pushed too hard. The meds were wearing off and I was really sore, worse than before. Home to ice I went.
In the morning I woke up with a tight knot in my neck. So I did ibuprofen, ice, and light massaging (Drs. orders). I was up walking around. I supported my head to bend over (like I had been) to put my hair up. As I let go of my head to fix my hair I heard a LOUD crack (imagine taking a #2 pencil and snapping it in half) and immediately felt a cringgling feeling. I barely made it to the bed and there I laid unable to move. I was getting massive waves of spasms/contractions in my neck. Screaming in pain I was able to yell out to my son to call for him (fyi he is an AMAZING and helpful 8 yr old boy in time of crisis and panic)

I was taken by rescue to the hospital and had a CT scan. As it turns out I have 2 fractures of my c2 (top bones base of neck)
It is called the hangman's break and I'm very lucky to be alive and to have no paralyzation or nerve issues. It is strictly in my neck.
Because of the severity I had been transferred to Maine Med and was seen by a surgical team. I am fortunate to not need surgery at this point. Although I will have some hearty hardware to wear around my neck and chest for 4 months. I am in a lot of pain and I really have no idea what the future holds or when I'll be able to return to work.
I want to thank my family and friends who have been here and offered to be such amazing help. It's truly scary to have no clue what's next.
A SPECIAL thank you to my AMAZING 8yr old Peyton who although was scared was able to get ahold of my Mom and get help. He knew I was worried about the cost of rescue so brought me all his money he has been saving for his lobster traps (I'm not taking that). He ran to end of road to flag down rescue.... he s truly truly a superb kid that deserves a medal!!! I love him...he is my hero."
