In 2011 at only 30 years of age Sergio was delivered a devastating diagnosis. Stage 4 Thymoma cancer. Obviously a shocking diagnosis especially being so young.
With his positive nature, fighting spirit and goofy ways, Sergio was an inspiration to all of us during his first fight against cancer.
Just when we thought he had defeated it, unfortunately it came back with a vengeance, including new problematic conditions including lung cancer, a paralyzed diaphragm, anemia, and constitutional red blood cell aplasia.
His body is not responding to treatment as well as his doctors would have expected. He has been continually receiving blood transfusions on a bi-weekly basis to help maintain his red blood count which seems to still fall below normal.
All this left Sergio's family and friends devastated as we wonder what the next course of action will be and what we can do to help.
While talking with a long time friend Sergio was introduced to a treatment that has yet to be FDA approved but has the ability to give Sergio his best chance at continuing to live a full, happy, and more healthy life.
Because this treatment is not FDA approved it unfortunately is not covered by any insurance carriers much like many other treatments that have gone unknown but can possibly have the best outcomes.
This is our next best choice and are asking for help so that Sergio can undergo treatment and have yet again the ability to defeat his condition.
He will need to under go a treatment in Los Angeles which will require countless nights of lodging, travel expenses, plus the cost of the treatments .
