My name is Wanda McKay and I am asking you to help someone I have known for 60 years. He is my brother, Randy. I am asking for money to help Randy Conklin fight cancer. He needs money for gas, his medications, his insurance deductibles, and he desperately needs an air conditioner in his car.
This wonderful man is so deserving of any help you can give him. Let me share his story with you and you will understand why.
When Randy retired in 1994 and moved to Texas from California he had a small retirement fund. He used it to build a little 1600 sq. ft. house and buy a new Saturn. Because he knew he would be going back to California in a short while to care for our elderly mother, he put the house and car in our sister's name because he didn't know how long he would be gone and he wanted her to have legal control of the house and car.
Our sister is five years older than Randy and she was not married and she had a low-paying job. He wanted to be sure that if he didn't come back to Texas for some reason, our sister would have a house and a car.
After he left, our sister met and married a man in his late 40’s who had never kept a job more than six months. He either got fired or he quit because he couldn’t stand to work for people who "weren’t as smart as he was and who didn't know how to run their business as well as he did ".
Shortly after they married our sister was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 53 years of age. Because of her Alzheimer’s her husband had control over all her finances including the house and car my brother had put in her name. He borrowed $40,000 against the house then took my sister and moved to another town to live with his mother and used the money to open a bakery. He never made a payment on the loan against the house. And in less than three years his bakery was out of business and he didn’t have any money left from the loan. And the house was gone.
My brother didn’t move back to Texas because his house was gone. He asked our brother-in-law for the car back and he wouldn’t let him have it.
My brother now lives in state assisted housing and gets a small check from the state every month. He worked for the State of California for 20 years so he never had to pay Federal taxes so he doesn’t qualify for Social Security. All the money he had went into that house and car.
The car he drives now is 13 years old and has no air conditioning. He has to drive two hours round trip to get his radiation treatments. The radiation is on his butt so he has to sit on the burns for two hours every day in temperatures that are over 100 degrees on some days.
He needs money for gas, his medications, his insurance deductibles, and he desperately needs an air conditioner in his car.
And what happened to my brother-in-law? His mother died last year and left him thousands of dollars. He took the money and moved to Colorado to grow Marijuana. He is aware of my brother’s plight but refuses to give him a penny.
Randy is the kindest, best-hearted man you could ever want to meet. I have never heard him say anything bad about anyone. Not even his brother-in-law. He just says that he realizes now that he has let people take advantage of him.
My husband and I are helping as much as we can but it is not enough to cover all his expenses. Can you help? I want so much to ease the financial burden on Randy so he can just think about getting well.
I will share this quote with you because I know that it is true, “You have never really never lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you”.
