In the early morning hours of May 7, Dusty lost the family home he inherited in a devastating fire. While he was asleep, one of his beloved dogs alerted him to the danger and saved his life tragically both of his dogs passed away in the fire.
In a single night, Dusty lost his home, all of his belongings and two loyal companions who were family to him.
Dusty is a Beltonian through and through. He has lived in Belton his entire life and is a beloved educator within Belton ISD, where he has spent his career at Southwest Elementary caring for and encouraging generations of children. Anyone who knows Dusty knows his bright spirit, kind heart, and genuinely fun personality. He is someone who has quietly shown up for others for years, and now he needs his community around him.
There are some losses words can't fully hold. To lose your home, your sense of normalcy, and the dogs who loved you so faithfully all in one night is heartbreaking.
Right now, Dusty is facing the unimaginable task of rebuilding his life from the ground up while grieving so much at once.
If you feel led to help, please consider donating, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping Dusty in your prayers. Even the smallest act of kindness can become light in someone's darkest moment.
