Hi, I'm Marsha and I'm fundraising for legal support for those in need of it. Let me introduce you to one of those individuals.

Anna, a disabled woman experiencing homelessness, is faced with many challenges one of which is to pay for legal services related to immigration, divorce and domestic violence.

Anna came to Canada with hopes of a better future for herself and her children, who she had to leave in her home country. Once in Canada, Anna would meet the man who later became her husband and later had a child with him. Shortly after, Anna was diagnosed with Lupus and hospitalized for months. When it was time to return home, her husband had her barred from the house and she was forced to live in a shelter. He withdrew her spousal immigration application and returned her OHIP card to the Ministry, which hampers her ability to receive adequate medical care.

After Anna’s initial hospital stay, she received the news that her daughter which lived in her home country, was also suffering from lupus. Although she wanted to visit her terminally ill daughter, Anna was too sick to travel. Her daughter later passed away without Anna being able to say goodbye.

Anna's health is still declining due to her inability to pay for her medications causing her to endure several long periods of hospital stays. Anna now requires dialysis three times per week due to kidney failure. For the last three years, Anna has resided in a shelter with nowhere to go. Anna takes the bus from Toronto to Brampton three days per week to receive her treatments which is a challenge for her frail frame. In 2023 Anna suffered a fractured hip in a fall and requires surgery however, she she cannot afford it now walks with a cane.

With no housing, still suffering with lupus and kidney failure, and now with the addition of mobility restrictions, Anna is in dire straits.

This fundraiser is Anna’s last hope. Unable to pay for legal services, a kind lawyer has already undertaken to work on Anna’s Humanitarian Compassionate immigration application at no cost to her. However, the case is a large financial obligation requiring hundreds of hours of work that a small firm just cannot afford. Anna needs your help to pay for future necessary legal services.

We urge you to show your compassion! Anna will need at minimum $10,000 to fund her immigration process alone. This is without consideration for her medical costs, transportation, and seeking housing. We want to remove barriers to legal representation for individuals who desperately need the help. Anna’s application has been submitted, but there is still so much more to be done. All donations will go directly to Anna.
