On Monday, July 25th 2016, Lady was diagnosed with IMHA. IMMUNE MEDIATED HEMALACTIC ANEMIA. These are four words as a dog owner you NEVER want to hear from your vet....
In September 2011, I went to the outskirts of Los Angeles County in search of a large dog to add to my world. My rescue dog from the streets of LA, Juliet, had just died of a heart attack in her sleep, and myself and my other rescue boy, Romeo, were distraught with the loss. I rescued Lady(Ladybug) from a shelter an hour and a half away from my home from an LA County high-kill shelter where they had larger pups. She was a 2 time return and a sofa eater.
Two sofas, an Italian leather chair, a passport, and chewed up prescription glasses later, there we were. Lady(under a year old) and Romeo(age 12 at the time) and I were a family. It was not easy, as I had just lost my job. But I was committed to making it work. Lady was NOT house broken. It took three years! But it was worth it. She is a LOVE Muffin.
Romeo passed away in August of 2015. Lady was there to lick the tears off of my cheak bone as they poured out. It was really SHE that rescued ME. Since then, she went with me everywhere. Lady's gentle, adorable and smart nature has inspired many people we have met in our travels to adopt other rescue dogs, including a woman just before this Christmas '16 This is really neat to experience.
LADY has been fighting hard to get back to good health. She has had 5 blood transfusions and a surgery to remove her spleen. She has been seeing a climb in her baby red cell count. But is now having some complications that require more vet bill and more meds.
Because of her zest, her vet techs are shocked that she is even as sick as her clinical findings. Many pets die because it is too costly to do the blood transfusions that are needed to get IMHA under control. I have her seeing the saavy IMHA expert vets at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. I have taken out a mortgage for her splenectomy and sold my Miata to pay for her bills. They have reached $16,000. At age 6, Lady has a lot more life to live. SHE IS a MUSE for those who have met her, a BRIGHT LIGHT to those who know her, and the strongest WARRIOR For life. The results of the splenectomy may take up to a month to fully manifest and I must put my ego aside and ask for help. PLEASE HELP KEEP HER ALIVE... Her medical attention IS working. Please choose Lady for LIFE and help with any donation.
Thank You so very much,
Lady's Forever Mom,
Randi
