Hilina'i's Walk 2016

Donation protected

Aloha!  My name is Tommy Heffernan.  It was put on my heart years ago to help send my daughter, Hilina'i, to a school that would give her the services, care and education that she needed.

Hilina’i was diagnosed with Hypotonia when she was one. This affected her speech, eating, core strength and walking. Later, she was diagnosed with Developmental Delays across the board, from cognitive and physical to social and emotional. We tried the public education system but Hilinaʻi regressed and began hurting herself, largely due to her inability to communicate. Her Neurologist suggested Variety School of Hawaiʻi, where she has been ever since. I made a commitment to get her there, and have been walking 37+ miles, from my childhood school (with family and friends) to Variety School each year.  Variety School has helped her to communicate, gain confidence and grow in all areas of her life.

On Friday July 29, 2016 we will have our 6th Annual Hilina’i’s Walk from Hau’ula to Diamond Head to raise funds for her education and services at Variety School of Hawaii for special needs children. This year, we are trying something a little different...we're going to try a relay, with a few teams to reduce the amount of time on the highways.  There have been a couple big scares on the roads when we walk thru the night and into the early morning hours.

Our family is abundantly grateful for all the support and love we've been given over the years.  Sending Hilina'i to Variety is our goal.  Thank you for your support, prayers and donations.
