On Sunday July 24th 2016 my husband Eric was in a what could have been a fatal accident. He fell off a bike and landed directly on his head almost severing his spinal cord. If his neck had bent 1.8 millimeters in any which way, he would have died or would have been quadriplegic. He is very lucky and blessed to be here today and I thank God he is.

 



When his accident occurred he was placed on a back board and driven by ambulance to our local hospital. X-rays were done and showed he had broken his neck. He was rushed by ambulance to a hospital 2 hours from our home. The next day he had C6-7 anterior and posterior cervical discectomy fusion surgery. They had to go in through the back of his neck and then the front. His vertebras were cemented together and had plates placed on the front and back with screws. His surgery went well and we were able to go home a few days after surgery.

 

Because of all this my husband is unable to work and he is our only income. We have many bills that we need to pay not just medical bills. We have a mortgage on our house, house tax to pay, medical bills, electric, water, heat, and more… We have 2 children, 2-year-old little girl and 6-month old baby boy. Our babies are everything to my husband and I.



This year has not been an easy one for our family. When our son was 6 weeks old he was admitted to the hospital for RSV and pneumonia. I also became very sick and my body began to shut down from PPD. And now my husband is in a neck brace and cannot move his neck or shoulders for a very long time. He cannot help me around the house with our little ones, drive, work, or do simple house hold tasks.
