In August of 2019 our dad- Joe Limbach- was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney cancer that spread to his lungs. He began Chemotherapy in hopes to cure or prolong the 3-5 years he was given to live. In November 2019, he was given GREAT news that the cancer on his lung began to shrink, along with the tumor on his kidney. The doctors said they would up the dosage of Chemo he was receiving in hopes to kill the cancer faster than they anticipated…. Our optimistic hearts couldn’t have been more excited at that time. We went into the Holidays just knowing our Dad was kicking this cancers ass good bye.
On December 28th just a few days after he hosted Christmas Eve at his house, our Dad had suffered from a massive stroke and was rushed to the Hospital where he still resides.
He spent two weeks in the ICU with one week of being in an induced coma. He has been in the recovery unit ever since. The effects from the stroke have caused blindness in his right eye and he suffers from memory loss and memory processing. He is unable to make medical decisions for himself and we have been told the likeliness of him being able to ever live on his own is unlikely. We have had to hire an Attorney in order to obtain Legal Guardianship so we can make medical decisions/placement on his behalf.
He is receiving minimal therapy and has been turned down by every Rehab Facility in Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha County that his insurance will cover. He is considered High Risk not only because of the mental state he is in, but because of the cost the facilities would have to endure with his Chemo treatments.
At this point, we have given up hope on getting him into a Rehab facility and now need to look into a long term care facility. We are currently on board with getting our Dad the help he needs and are willing to pay out of pocket as much as we can- but we realize we need help. With the medical costs of him now being in the hospital for the past 6 weeks and with about another month to go, the attorney fees, and the out of pocket expense to get him into an Assisted Living Facility- even after we sell his assets (house, truck, etc) will cost us tens of thousands of dollars.
We are a proud hard working family- but at this point we know we need help from our family and friends. Our dad (Joe) has helped us and so many others for the entirety of his life, and now it’s our turn to help repay the millions of favors and help him.
Thank you so much for considering helping our Dad on his journey to recovery. As you know, a little bit goes a long way. All of your support means the world to us.
With all our love,
Jodi (Tony) & Julie (Andrew)
