I hope this message finds you in the best of health and spirit.
For those of you who may not know, in May of last year, just days after my daughter moved to Ecuador for the Peace Corps, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, I have gone through chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and surgery to remove the cancer from my body. By the grace of God I am cancer free! Although I no longer have breast cancer I still have its effects. Many of which are physical and will affect me for the rest of my life, and then others are extremely expensive medical bills. Since hitting long-term disability, I'm at risk of losing my health insurance if I don't pay premiums ($985) by August 31, which is when the next premiums are due. Unfortunately, I didn't get advance notice of this, just a demand letter dated July 15 with payment due in full by August 1.
I am continuously in and out of doctor’s offices and hospitals with appointments and exams to monitor my heart and lymph nodes which were affected by the cancer and treatment. With an operation on August 1 and at least one additional big surgery which should be scheduled for the end of the year, I am completely overwhelmed. As a mother, these expenses are exhausting on top of my everyday expenses and emergencies that happen in life (my youngest son broke his arms in April & then the loss of my brother in May). I have applied for hospital assistance but was denied and have been doing my very best to maintain. I've already paid thousands of dollars out of pocket on medical bills, and the collection agencies call like true bill collectors do. I've done my best but the constant appointments to monitor my heart and lymph nodes keep the bills coming. Having breast cancer is no small challenge, it has truly humbled me, and neither was writing this. I’ve now reached a point where I really need to ask for more help. I am feeling better and even more blessed that God has brought me a mighty long way.
Just to give you an idea of what I’m dealing with, listed below are what is left of a few of my bills after payments I’ve already made:
Health Insurance Premium: $985 (Most time sensitive)
Out of packet expense from CT scans $2495
Oncologist/chemo $782
Radiology $484
Rehab $1276
I am asking for help to at the very least raise $985 so that I don’t lose my health insurance. If I lose that, three of my children will also be without coverage. If you can help monetarily, it would be greatly appreciated, if not your continued prayers are worth more than gold.
