I'm raising $700 to help cover the urgent medical care of Coco (aka Tsvetan), a very sick young rescue cat in Sofia , Bulgaria who is now fighting for his life. To help this fundraiser go further, I will match every donation dollar for dollar up to $120.
This fundraiser was created to help cover part of Coco’s treatment costs and to give him a real chance to live, recover, and eventually find a safe and loving home.
I know many of the people who support my rescue work are in the United States, and I also understand that helping a cat in another country may not always seem like the most urgent cause. There are so many animals in need, and so many heartbreaking stories. Honestly, every time I create a fundraiser like this, I hope it will be the last one. I want to believe there will not be another cat in desperate need, but time has shown that is not the case.
And when Maya’s foster mom (from Bulgaria) reached out and asked whether I could help this cat, I could not say no. For those who do not know Maya, you can visit my Instagram @ivailoscatio to see how beautiful she is. I fostered Maya in the past and later traveled with her from Bulgaria to the United States so she could have a real chance at adoption through Give Me Shelter SF . Her journey is a reminder that these rescues matter. A cat born into suffering can still have a chance.
Now I am hoping for that same chance for Coco.
Just a week ago, on April 12, 2026, Coco was found by Maya's Bulgarian foster and her friend while taking a walk in the neighborhood. Coco was found barely able to move, weak, unsteady, and clearly in pain.
People nearby said he had likely been hit by a car some time ago. He stayed near a local pet shop where he was fed along with other street cats, but no one really wanted to do more for him. Because he was found on Tsvetnitsa, an important Christian holiday in Bulgaria he was given the name Tsvetan, a Bulgarian name connected with flowers and blossoming. For my English-speaking supporters, I called him Coco.
He was taken to BulVet Clinic pet hospital in Sofia where he is still being taken care of as of now. The situation proved even more serious. Coco was found to have anemia, an old pelvic injury that healed crooked, likely from a past car accident, fluid in his chest, and neurological FIP.
We had to start him on GS therapy without delay. There are signs of hope, and he is doing better than when he was first found, but he is still far from stable. He is responding to the GS. However, he is still weak, fragile, and still fighting every day.
Because Coco has neurological FIP, treatment is long and expensive. It usually requires an 84-day course, and neurological cases often need higher doses that increase further as the cat starts gaining weight and strength. In addition to the medication itself, there are also veterinary exams, bloodwork, supportive care, and continued monitoring in hospitalizasion.
This $700 fundraiser goal will not cover everything, but it will help relieve part of the burden on the rescuers who stepped in when Coco had no one else. Once he is stable enough to leave the clinic, he will have a foster to go to. But first, he has to be stable enough.
Prefer not to use GoFundMe? You can also support Coco directly via Venmo: @Ivailo-Anguelov. Direct Venmo gifts will be added manually as offline donations to the fundraiser total.
Please help me give Coco (Tsvetan) a chance to live, recover, and one day find a real home.
Every donation matters. Every share matters. And with my matching donations up to $120, your support can go even further right now.
Thank you for helping Coco fight for his future.
