Hi, my name is Aisha. In June of 2023, the Section 8 housing program stopped paying their portion of my rent. I became aware of this issue in December of 2023 when I received an eviction notice. At the hearing, I was told it was due to Section 8 not paying their portion. I went to their office, which was closed due to COVID but reopened on January 8th, 2024. I was told I could file a grievance, which I did. I won the grievance hearing, at which they were supposed to repay back rent and reinstate my voucher. They have not. My unit is a rent-to-own, which has been jeopardized due to non-payment.
I'm a single mother of four children, two of whom have disabilities. My oldest son has autism and is non-verbal. My youngest son has Down syndrome along with CHD, chronic lung disease, and many more medical issues. He requires total care. Due to going through a divorce and my own medical issues, I am also on disability and unable to work. It's impossible for me to come up with the amount of back payment with my rent being $2,190 a month. We are facing eviction as soon as August 21st of this year.
Please help save our home, our safe place. My children are comfortable here; the children in the area are friendly and understanding of my children's disabilities. The donations will help continue to give my children the stability that they need. The money will go to my landlord and other expenses that need to be paid due to this issue. I have posted the letter to show what the decision was at the hearing. If anyone would like to donate directly to my landlord, you can contact me directly for their information in my inbox, Aisha Shealey, on Facebook or my Any amount of a donation will be greatly appreciated.
