As many of you probably know, my wife Deborah DeBarth Fraga died while
we were on vacation in Ocracoke, North Carolina visiting family on August
11, 2016. What started off as a simple family vacation ended in a deadly
tragedy. Deborah DeBarth Fraga, and my daughter, Amanda Fraga, 17, were
caught in a rip current while swimming and were not able to swim back to
shore. I attempted a rescue but was unable to reach them. I then called
bystanders to assist, who responded and were able to pull both onto shore. I
watched as EMS, law enforcement officers, members of the fire department
and others labored in the 100+ degree heat, while doing CPR, resuscitation,
and helping in so many ways to save my wife. Amanda was air lifted off the
island and flown to the Greenville hospital for observation and treatment of
near-drowning. Amanda is now physically okay and we are simply trying to
raise funds for the hospital and air transportation bills. We do not have any
insurance and although family has offered to help with the expenses I
personally would not feel right letting them pay the bills when I know that
there are so many people that care and want to help out. Any funds raised
would be greatly appreciated and go towards paying for Amanda’s treatment.
Amanda and I thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts for any
help given.
