Support Jeremy's Fight Against Bladder Cancer
Donation protected
Jeremy's initial symptoms included months of periodic blood in his urine with no discomfort. In the fall of 2023, Jeremy was diagnosed with bladder cancer following a CT scan. He urges anyone with similar symptoms to consult with their physician.
In the spring of 2024, Jeremy had his first cystoscopy and consultation with his urologist. His urologist was shocked at Jeremy's tumor size and age. His form of bladder cancer is more common amongst older men, particularly smokers.
The only risk factor Jeremy had was the time he spent fighting the Fort Mcmurray fire as a volunteer firefighter in 2016. Unfortunately, the fire placed all fire fighters at risk as proper respiratory support could not be provided/maintained. The carcinogens from the burning buildings end up in the air, then are filtered through the body, collecting in the bladder, leaving fire fighters at high risk for bladder cancer and at risk for many other forms of cancer.
In July 2024, Jeremy underwent what was intially thought to be a successful surgery from his medical team at the University of Alberta Hospital. For his birthday, Jeremy completed his first follow up cystoscopy and it was found his tumors had returned and a cauterization attempt was made. For Valentine's day, his second follow up cystoscopy revealed that attempt was also unsuccessful and his tumors had again aggressively returned.
Jeremy is slated to undergo another surgery on March 5th at the U of A Hospital. Jeremy opted to complete surgery under epidural, as the general anesthesia option would have delayed his surgery by another 7 months. Even after surgery it is anticipated that Jeremy will have to complete additional treatment and/or chemotherapy.
Over the course of his cancer treatment, Jeremy has spent time away from work as well as completing complementary treatments out of pocket that have added to financial strain. Your support will help ease this strain in regard to monthy bills and continued out of pocket treatments. Due to the aggressive nature of his cancer, if enough funds are raised Jeremy is also interested in completing a PET scan, which is not covered in Canada and can cost between $5000-$10000. This scan would identify any other areas of cancer or concern in Jeremy's body.
If you would like to support Jeremy as he continues his fight, please donate below. He hopes to have a positive update for you following surgery.
