Hi all. As those who know we well know, I am a very private person. Sometimes this is good...other times not so much. I get this from my mother which is why it is so challenging for me to do this. Well, here it goes... About 4 years ago I started noticing that my mom was not remembering things very well. It first it was very subtle but then got more noticeable. I finally with the help of a pastor friend and my mom's sisters, found the courage to have my mom tested for Alzheimers/dementia. My concerns turned out to heartbreakingly true... my mom was diagnosed with dementia.
I, of course, decided then and there that I would take care of her to the best of my ability as she has sacrificed tremendously to raise me as a single parent. I would sacrifice and do everything in my power to work to reverse or lessen the effects or at the very least prolong the raise of the debilitating affects.
What I did not realize is that if you are not prepared for the long term care of an ill elderly parent (financially and emotionally) you will run into some serious problems. This is especially true for dementia as there are not a lot non-medicaid insurance programs that cover in-home care.
In order to properly care for my mom as her only caregiver and help her maintain her dignity, I have had to cut back my business to almost nothing.
I am asking those that are willing to help, to fund me getting money to hirer home care for my mom for several months, which will allow me the time to rebuild my business, at which time, I will be able to self-fund her care.
I need these funds right away so I can make sure my mom gets the best care now, while she is still able to be cared for at home. Thankfully, right now, that is still possible.  These funds will also buy me some time to prepare for her needs going forward. I am currently so invested in her daily care (takes about 16 hours a day) that I have virtually no time to properly plan for the future.
I really want to do the best for my mom, that is why I am willing to ask for funds, even though it is extremely uncomfortable for me to do so. I have decided that I need to get over myself and do this for her.
