Smeagol the Hairless Rescue Cat

Donation protected
My name is Christina and I have created this GoFundMe for one of my best friends in the world, Mallory. She is the owner of Smeagol and didn't have the guts to start a fundraiser. I am a cat lady as well and understand how it feels to lose family. Below is the write up from Mallory detailing Smeagol's stuggles.
Smeagol was adopted December 20 2012 from SOAR (Sphynx Open Arms Rescue) with his brother and best friend Skinner. Skinner and Smeagol had been displaced 2-3 times in 3 years and I was their next home. As soon as I adopted Skinner and Smeagol, they both had a myriad of untreated health problems including upper respiratory infections that turned into tracheitis. Since then, Skinner has been healthy but Smeagol has suffered stomach issues that no one can diagnose. For years Smeagol has endured bouts of diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pains. One vet told me this is probably why Smeagol and Skinner kept getting put in rescue. ☹ In the end of 2013-2014, Smeagol went from 15 pounds down to 6. I had him put on a prescription food, blood work performed, labs, etc., and they couldn't find what was wrong with him and diagnosed him with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). With almost 1 thousand spent, I finally found the right concoction of medicine for him to live happily (involving prednisone, pancrezyme, the right food, litter, etc), with recommendations from the Sphynx cat community. Smeagol also engages in Pica behavior where he eats items around the house due to his nutrient insufficiency. I have tried to baby proof the house as best I can but if you know an animal with Pica, especially a cat, they can get into anything. Proofing I had done involved flushing floss, not leaving any items on the counter, buying covers for trash cans, and hiding any paper and plastic items in my closet, and I also added nutrients such as Tumeric and Lysine to his food. On June 15 of this year, I came home from an audition and found Smeagol not able to make it to the litter box. He had been acting a little strange that week but I attributed it to me recently returning from a week long work trip. I took him to the vet the next day and got x rays done and Smeagol had a very large mass of poop blocked in his colon with objects. The vet said he would need to have surgery the next day. On my way to take him to the surgery the next day the vet told me he could not have the surgery as his bloodwork was out of control and really grave condition. For days I treated Smeagol with potential sepsis, keeping him alive by giving him Pedialtye and getting him nutrients any way I could every few hours. He was finally able to get the surgery a week later where they removed pounds of items from his colon which they said was very stretched out. I had to get it done at my regular vet for 600$ rather than a specialist, because I could not afford the specialist price. I took him home that day and nursed him. He is such a trooper and kept trying to walk around and jump while high on anesthesia. He was improving well after the surgery then about 10 days ago (July 16th), stopped eating and drinking. I took him to the vet and the vet said there is nothing else he can do for him. The vet visits on top of the surgery (x rays, follow up x rays, blood work, diagnostics, medicines) have cost me almost 1000$ on top of his surgery. I have maxed out all my credit cards, and don’t have any money left. The vet told me the only way he can improve is if he goes to the specialist which I cannot afford. I used to work as a vet tech and I know just the consult is 90$ which will not include diagnostics, or interventions. Today I watched his body turn blue and held him and told him it was okay to pass. He kept getting up and trying to eat and drink despite his frail body saying no. He really has a will to live and doesn't want to let go. He is only 7 and has so much life ahead of him. Here is some information about Smeagol for those who don’t know him.
Everyone that meets Smeagol falls in love with him! Smeagol purrs so loud like a motor boat and loves to sit on your chest and fall asleep with his chin on yours. He even likes to French kiss people while they are sleeping! Smeagol has never met a person or pet who didn't fall in love with him. Even those that think he is ugly before they meet him! I was in the process of having Smeagol certified through Pet Partners to be a therapy cat because everyone who meets Smeagol falls in love. I truly believe he is a gift to this planet.
