On monday July 11th Shelly had started experiencing what she thought was just a bad migraine.  After 6 days of debilitating head and neck pain Shelly went to the emergency room where she would undergo a CT scan of her head.  The results of the CT scan would show that Shelly had suffered a dissection (bleed) of her vertebral artery that had now turned into a blood clot. A very large blood clot.  The clot extends from the base of her brain to almost down her entier neck to her 5th cervical vertebrae.  She was life flighted down to seattle where she would undergo an MRI to check the exstent of the damage if any to her brain.  Dr's believe that Shelly had suffered what they call mini strokes from the time the dissection happened to when the blood clot had formed.  She spent 6 days in the Nuro ICU in seattle to monitor the clot, the Dr's opted not to do surgery in fear of dislodging the  clot and causing more damage.  Because of the clot and the bleed Shelly is in a lot of pain and discomfort. 
Shelly has since returned back to Juneau to her home with hopes that being on blood thinners will help dissolve the massive clot in her artery.  She will soon be traveling back to Seattle to undergo another MRI to monitor the progress.  At that time the Dr's will decide if they will need to go in and do surgery or continue to monitor the clot.
Shelly is a sigle mother with 3 young boys.  She is a very outgoing, fun, loving, caring, person who is very active and otherwise healthy.  Due to her circumstances she unable to return work. The pain is so debilitating that she can't not function to her full capacity and has to rest constantly.  And still, she is not out of the woods, as long as that clot is still there she is at risk of dislodging it and causing a massive stroke. 
It would mean so much to be able to alleviate some of the burden of medical bills for Shelly and her family.  She has a very long road ahead of her with lots of travel and medical interventions along the way.  This money would be blessing for her and her boys.
