Hi Everybody,
My name is Mya Aniela Gaber and my 2nd birthday is coming up in September. Unfortunately I’m not able to walk or crawl yet and our local doctors here in Canada are not sure if that will ever happen for me. This is why I’m writing to you in hopes that you will be able to help my parents out financially so I can get the help I need in the United States. Let me tell you about myself a little before you make up your mind.
I was born with club feet, contractures in my knees (legs won’t go straight), hip dysplasia (dislocation), a broken femur and the nerves in my legs don’t seem to be functioning correctly. Since then my femur has healed, club feet are currently being fixed, and I’ve had surgery to get my hip back into place. The sad news is I still can’t straighten my legs, bear any weight whatsoever and my nerves still won’t work. This has my doctors concerned so I’ve been put through a battery of genetic tests that have returned no definitive cause. The only thing I’ve been told is that I’m suffering from a condition called Arthrogryposis but the cause is unknown. The doctors here have said that there isn’t much else they can do for me. My parents obviously won’t take this for an answer and did some research of their own and found the Paley Institute, www.paleyinstitute.org . They managed to get us in right away so we got on a plane and headed down to West Palm Beach Florida. It was quite a long appointment but the end result is that we were told there are things that can be done for my legs, YAY! It involves multiple surgeries, aggressive physiotherapy and of course living in Florida for roughly 3-4 months. This is where all my friends come in. Momma and Daddy can’t bear all this cost on their own so I’m hoping that everyone would be so kind to chip in and help them out. It will cover the cost of my surgeries, physio and our living expenses while we are there. I promise it will be worth it when you see me walking one day.
