America’s Marathon Man, Jerry Dunn has been running for over 40 years. During that time he has raised funds and awareness for a number of organizations. He supported Habitat for Humanity with his Shore to Shore in 104 day transcontinental run. He helped fund a climbing wall for the Spearfish Middle School gym with his 60 mile “birthday” run. Dunn has also has raised funds for Boys & Girls Club of Rapid City. He loves to use his gift of endurance running to make a difference in other people’s lives.
“I ran 60 miles on my 60th and 65 miles on my 65th so I need to keep the string going and support another of my favorite organizations in the process. To celebrate turning 70 this year, America’s Marathon Man is going to run 70K (43.6 miles) to raise $7,000 for Special Olympics of South Dakota.
So if you believe in what Special Olympics does …... provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. then please help me reach, or surpass my goal of raising 7K for all those athletes who are “Special Olympians.”
"I have been a volunteer at 2 statewide Special Olympic Track & Field Events in Spearfish, SD, and each time I've come away in awe of the athletes and their spirited performances."
I will be doing my 70K on August 27th on the Lean Horse 100 ultra marathon course and the outdoor track at Custer High School.
