Help Colin Climb to the Top

My name is Colin Torpey and I am an active, 25-year-old below the knee amputee who lives just outside Atlanta, Georgia. I began rock climbing in May of 2014 while taking summer classes at Georgia Tech. I found rock climbing to be challenging and strenuous but also invigorating and freeing. After gaining some experience in the sport, I was introduced to Catalyst Sports, a group that focuses on those with physical disabilities. With their support and coaching, I competed in the first annual USA Adaptive National Climbing competition in July of that year. I earned 7th place in that first event and took 4th place in the 2015 event. Through hard work and a disciplined approach, I was able to capture 2nd place in this year’s event and that qualified me for a spot on Team USA! Our team will travel to Paris, France for the IFSC World Climbing Championships in September. I am very excited about the opportunity to compete against the world’s best adaptive climbers. But I need your help and support to cover my costs to participate. 


The schedule requires that I check in for the event on September 12th and the competition runs from the 14th through the 18th. At this time, I estimate that I will need to be in Paris for eight nights and nine days. Currently, our team is looking for an apartment to rent in Paris for that timeframe. I estimate that the costs for the trip will be between $3,360 and $3,760. Below is my breakdown of the estimated costs.  

 
Round trip flight from Atlanta to Paris - $1100 to $1500
Food for nine days – $630
Lodging at $110 per night - $880
Transportation in and around Paris - $350
Insurance - $400
