My good friend Naomi is facing eviction due to missed rent payments. She is disabled with severe arthritis and a chronic, progressive auto-immune disease that forced her to stop working in 2013. She lacks the money because the Social Security Administration decided she isn't disabled. She appealed that decision, but is still waiting for her hearing to be scheduled. She has already waited seven months and may have to wait several more. Once the SSA reverses their decision, she will be able to pay her rent regularly. But until that time, she is in financial limbo.
Naomi's medical condition is called Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder; it's like having Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Crohn's and Rheumatoid Arthritis all at the same time. Having to pack and move at this time would cause great stress, physically and emotionally; she has nowhere to go and a move could mean she'd have to give up her cat.
