My dad, Edward Rothschild, went into the hospital for a routine back surgery on July 5th, 2016. He was scheduled to have the surgery and be released within 3 days. Unfortunately, he didn't recover as planned. The day of surgery, he stayed in recovery for 5- 6 hours when he was only supposed to be there 1-2 hours. They moved him into a regular room for a day but he wasn't doing well and he needed more care so they moved him into the surgery trauma step down unit. Still, he was not doing well and they dicovered that there was a fluid leak from his spine. They decided to do another procedure to fix this, putting him back under anesthesia. After he came out of the second surgery, he was heavily sedated but restless. They decided to put him into an induced coma so that he would lay still long enough for his back to heal without being aggitated. The medication they were giving him made him very aggitated and restless, resulting in wrist restraints after both surgeries. Anyone who knows my dad knows that he loves to be active and live his life with his own free will. He is happy being hyper and social at all times!! They kept him in the coma for a few days and then slowly brought him out of it. Due to him being on a high dose of medication and having symptoms of COPD, he had trouble breathing when they tried to remove the breathing tube. They decided to do a tracheotomy. He stayed in ICU with the tracheotomy for a week, slowly weaning him off the medication. A few days ago they decided to move him to the intermedical facility in Baptist hospital where they plan to slowly get him off of the trech and medication and ready to come home (they believe this will be a 2-3 week process). Because of the trech, he cannot verbally communicate with us at all and gets frustrated and very upset. This has been a long 3 weeks and unfortunately my dad hasn't been able to do any work or run his business. We are asking for any financial help at all. Anything will help!! With 2 surgeries, 2 weeks in ICU, and a few weeks in the intermedical facility, we need all the help we can get. Thank you so much. I've showed my dad all of the sweet messages he's recieved from everyone and I know he appreciates it so much! We can't wait for him to be home and back to the normal Eddie that everyone loves!!!
