Hi everyone, my name is Brenda and I am 21 years old. I am a first generation college graduate! I recently graduated college with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. While in high school, I joined Middle College where students are given the opportunity to take college and high school classes at the same time. This program helped me a lot because they paid for the cost of my classes and allowed me to take a head start in my college education. My dream has always been to further my education and I am very excited to be given an opportunity to continue moving forward.
Being undocumented has never stopped me from pursing my hopes and dreams, but there have been many obstacles along the way. The reason I have started this fundraiser is because in September I am hoping to start grad school at Cal Poly SLO to study Architecture. It has always been something I have been interested in studying and hoping to start a career in. Unfortunately I don’t qualify for FAFSA due to my legal status and I applied for the California Dream Act, but I received very little funding. I have reached out to the college, but was told that they don’t offer a lot of financial aid for grad students. I want to continue going to school, but without the financial support it will be difficult to continue my education. My parents continue to be supportive throughout this process. They want to help in any way, but with them being undocumented as well, it is hard for us to qualify for other resources.
All the funds would be used for my tuition and book expenses for grad school for the two years I am studying. It would truly mean so much if you are able to help in any way. I am grateful for all the support I have received in the past and continue to receive from my friends and family!
Again thank you so much for all of your support! It means everything to me and because of you I will be able to continue my education.
