Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my Gofundme page. With a history of heart disease since 2000, the past few months have overwhelmed me and my wife Donna.
I had a heart attack back in 2000, again in 2006, but since the first of the year I've been hospitalized for A-fib, an attack in March (3 stents place in circumflex artery), April another visit to ER (1 additional stent in same artery, then on the 4th of July things went very bad.
I was sent by ambulance to UCONN Medical Center, where emergency cath lab proceedure for an Additional 2 srents put in the very same artery. Things went from bad to really bad, as I flat lined 6 times (during CPE 6 ribs were broken). The cpr attempts failed, however my implanted pacemaker/defibrillator kicked in, giving me a pulse.
I was intubated, a heart pump installed and Airlifted to Hartford Hospital for more in depth care. After 2/3 days the tube and pump were removed after which time i then developed a bacterial pneumonia, and spent 10 days in ICU before being moved to a step down unit and after a total of 13 days was released to return home.
At home I am making slow progress and receiving additional care from visiting nurses, Physical Therapy and daily monitoring of my vitals. I have lost nearly 20 pounds since January and as a result am rather weak.
It will be some time before i will be able to generate some income to pay down the enormous previous medical bills And the bills still to come.
I don't have the luxury of pride Not to ask for help, but ask I must.
I intend to beat this setback and thrive with your help and the support of my family and friends. I thank you in advance for ANY assistance you may wish to offer.
Very Gratefully,
Ken Burkhardt
