Born February 13, 1952, son of the late Sidney Wade and Peggy Terry Hilton of Charlotte, NC. Calvin was a father, a brother, an uncle, a son, a partner, and friend. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, even if he didn’t have much to give.
After graduating East Mecklenburg High School, Calvin went into the US Navy and reached a rank of BT3. His favorite times were on the USS John F. Kennedy where he was affectionately known as Mother Hilton. Calvin spent many years involved with Oakhurst Baptist Church and the Charlotte Singing Christmas Tree. Calvin was a singer, machinist, gamer, hot-rodder and computer enthusiast.
Calvin is survived by his partner, Diana Batson of Charlotte, NC; his children, Shannon and Corey Hyde of Chester, SC, Catherine and Patrick Montgomery of Columbia, SC; his brother Billy and Diane Hilton of Charlotte, NC; his sister Linda Hilton of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Allison Gregory, Kevin Laws, James Laws, Christian Queen, Stormy Queen and great grandchildren Liam Smith and Baby Gregory; his nieces, Kellie Hilton and Beth Royer. As well as Aunts and cousins.
Visitation begins at 12:30 before the service. Memorial Services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, July 29th. Elizabeth Kirk, Chaplain, is officiating the service at A. E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home and Crematorium LLC. 2310 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206.
