Hey All,
My name is Michaela Riter and I am on the U16 ECNL Rage team. My coach, Walter Pratte, a few other teammates, and I have developed a service project called Soccer Without Borders. This project will take place over Thanksgiving break when we will be traveling to Argentina and Paraguay. Walter has family in Argentina who generously offered to house us in both countries and provide for food.
In Paraguay, Walter, the 6 other girls, and I will be hosting a soccer camp for about 60 young girls with the same passion and love for the game of soccer that I share, but who lack the opportunity, until now. During the day we will also be volunteering in their school, interacting with the children, and helping teach English.
The children living in the countries we are visiting are not as privileged as we are nor do they have the money for even simple necessities. Therefore we have also decided to donate our old jerseys and cleats to those in need. When it comes to the families and children we are visiting, a big part of what makes this trip so special is giving them an opportunity many of they may never get again. Not only is it beneficial to them, but to us as well. It proves to be a very exciting and new journey for me to give back instead of taking and to lend a helping hand to those in need.
As for the donations, they will be going towards the plane fairs to make this whole trip happen. We will be leaving November 18th and returning back to the countries with many new and exciting memories on November 27th.
